Well, personally, i love this game, but i have found just as many of you have pointed out, that people are very very selfish and or annoying. I created my own guild for friends, intelligent players and family. Not big but it means i dont have to worry about idiot guild members. I do however have to deal with people in the desert. It by far is the worst area in the game i have found. I dont know if it is purely because people are too busy doing their post accension quests or what, but i have found players who will leave at the drop of a hat, charge for healing, etc...
After about 2 hours of this bs, i quickly went back to old ascalon and helped people complete missions(with bonus) and gave out some free items that they could use.
Overall im happy with the community, im just not impressed with the community where i currently am.

Would be glad to help you out in the desert if you need it. I'm in no way guaranteeing success as it may mean a few pu's but I have a guild myself of good friends only. Started the clan/guild almost 4 years ago now and it's been strong value-wise ever since. I'm sure I could grab a few to come help out.
Awol Duteq - 20 rgr/mo
Femwol Duteq - 20 Mes/Ele
Femwol Twoteq - 12 Mo/Rgr
Look me up on one of those names if I'm on I'll gladly come help. The desert is annoying...its like the wall all the idiots run into and stop, plead, beg, whine, yell, harrass, and display as much limited vocabulary as possible to try and force their way through in frustration.

Me neither, that dates well back to older MMORPGs, its a issues since at least Ultima Online.
Dont think because MMOPRGs usually have a monthly fee such thing do not happen, only thing that we hope its done is that the developer goes after such people and ban then and in playing MMORPGs its not something they want to do.
The advantage of Guild Wars is they dont depend on the monthy fee to support the game and so they can be more agressive in relation to banning that MMORPGs that are supported by a monthly fee.

Thanks, ill definetly look you up. I wont be on anymore tonight as im heading off to bed soon, but ill look you up tommorrow. I think once im done accending ill be able to find partys a bit better, it seems as if more people are doing post accension quests over the accension ones.
Thanks again.

Is the problem really with the community? or maybe with yourself? Perhaps you expect too much of your fellow gamer. Sure there are a few people willing to help out or answer questions here and there, but I think if you're expecting (or demanding) other people to help you, you're only going to be disappointed. People's time is valuable, (i know mine is) and they spend it in a way that they enjoy. That may or may not include helping newbies. Although i agree that a friendly and helpful community can foster community growth as a whole, the bottom line is that each player needs to take some responsibility and learn things on their own sometimes. If you have questions, forums and fansites are a boon of information, take the time and read a bit about the game, and dont expect people to hold your hand every step of the way.

Point... Still people can be really selfish and rude...
ie: last night I politely asked If someone could advertise their sales on the 'trade' channel... then the bloke (not saying any names but Tc Flame!!) started swearing at me and told me never to tell him what to do ever again!
I was so angry BUT I didnt swear back I "politely" put him on my 'ignore' list

Im just not seeing what to original poster is I guess. When someone asks a 'stupid' question theres usually two or three players, including myself, that answer it without the slightest bit of arrogance or insultingness.
Though jerks, in every aspect of life, are rather hard to avoid. And given the length of the thread I'm sure someones linked to that Penny Arcarde pic. proving that people behind the mask of the internet are a little more quick to the jackass contest.

I have played other MMOs in the past and in all of them the people around me were more than happy to help me out and answer my questions. With Guild Wars it is as though no one cares about anyone unless they are in their own guild. I can sit in a major town asking people simple questions without ever getting a response. Why?
Don't get me wrong this is a great game even though I have only played it for about a week now, but the community is making me want to quit already. The majority of the players appear to be selfish at first and offer no assistance what so ever. I could easily be wrong about this, but until I see otherwise I have no reason to believe in game players are willing to help other out.
Basically I want to get someone elses oppinion on this and find out if this is how it just is.

I think this is for some reason why it's not exactly classifed as an "MMORPG", and instead a "Competitive Online RPG". The lack of player interaction at times is pretty weird.
Lucky me that I ran in with a good crew from a different forum I went in to, and came into the game with a lot of people I knew. I do understand what you mean, though.. without a good group (and not just a random pick-up guild), it's really not great.
But I have to ask one thing.. Did you expect to get help from 'other players' (or 'non-guildmates') in "Guild Wars"? This game is centered around the guilds, both in interaction and in management. Can't really get anywhere without them, unless you want to play as a pickup henchmen in the tombs your whole life ..

Wow, I'm actually surprised at how mild some of the flames are here...usually a topic starting with " What is wrong with people in this game?" are flamed withiin 10 seconds with...strong words...
But if you seriously expect everyone to be nice to you, you need to learn a few things about life...and a lot of the ones I'm referring to can come from movies focused on New York where the people are selfish(those kinds of movies reflect the kind of attention you're getting from other people). You really shouldn't go on to an online game and expect everyone to help you, and a better game isn't defined by a better community(depending on what you define as better, I think the best game community is the Tribes one...not so many people think so because it's "small" pshaw to that!) so if you meet people who aren't going to help you, don't remain in the same place asking the same question. That irritates people, and the key to survival is not drawin attention to yourself...

Some just don't know, others are busy with their own affairs, others are just lazy.
I, for one, answer any question I see being asked, if I know the answer... But many do not. Usually my messages are lost in a barrage of spam anyway.

OK, I hereby decree I will spend two minutes everytime I start playing by going to a noob area and answer all questions I can, ask people using the all channel for WTS/WTB to use the trade channel, and report people in obvious violation of the EULA (e.g. selling gold).
I don't think it'll do any difference, but I'll do my bit.
